APPG launches the HIV Prevention Innovation Fund with the Department for Health

On 2nd November Mike Freer MP chaired the launch of the HIV Prevention Innovation Fund. The fund is providing £600,000 to thirteen new innovative local HIV Prevention projects across England.

Speakers included, Public Health and Innovations Minister, Nicola Blackwood MP and the National Director of Health and Wellbeing at Public Health England, Professor Kevin Fenton.

APPG on HIV/AIDS joins with TB and Malaria APPGS to host a reception for the Global Fund

As replenishment of the Global Fund draws nearer the APPG has been working hard to increase awareness amongst Parliamentarians of the important work the Global Fund does. On 12th July the HIV/AIDS APPG joined with APPGs on TB and Malaria to host a reception with special guest speaker Annie Lennox. The event was a great opportunity to get the important message across that the UK needs to increase its contribution to the Global Fund.

APPG hosts a joint meeting alongside TB and Malaria APPGs with Sir Richard Feachem and Mark Dybul

Sir Richard Feacham, former Executive Director to the Global Fund accompanied the current Executive Director, Mark Dybul in a joint APPG meeting to discuss with Parliamentarians the importance of the Global Fund’s work. The meeting was a great success, with representatives from key civil society organisations such as STOPAIDS, Results UK and Malaria No More. Most Parliamentarians, by the end of the meeting were in agreement that the UK should pledge £1.2 billion to the Global Fund, now we need to ensure that this message reaches the Government.

APPG Meets with Former President of Botswana His Excellency Mr Festus Moghae

On 22nd March members of the APPG met with the former President of Botswana, His Excellency Mr Festus Moghae to discuss the future of the AIDS response, how we can create sustainability for HIV in the current ODA environment and the role of the UK in ending AIDS by 2030.

MP Hails PrEP High Court Decision as a Breakthrough in the Fight against HIV

Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on HIV & AIDS and MP for Finchley & Golders Green, Mike Freer, has said he is pleased that the Court of Appeal has ruled NHS England have the legal power to Commission PrEP.

Following the Court’s decision in May 2016, which ruled NHS England had the powers to fund PrEP, health bosses manoeuvred to block the decision through the Court of Appeal.
