Hope and Courage

The APPG was glad to support the launch of a new film about African teachers challenging HIV stigma at a parliamentary event. David Borrow MP hosted the event, with special guest Peter Piot, former Director of UNAIDS. The teachers featured in the film were also at the event.

The film bears witness to the stories of four Kenyan teachers living with HIV, and the stigma and discrimination they faced in their schools, communities and families. It goes on to document how with treatment and support, these teachers have triumphed over their personal circumstances and have become true leaders in the education sector’s fight against the disease. By raising awareness of challenges faced by teachers, the film is a powerful advocacy tool and training resource which aims to reduce HIV stigma, and encourage others to access treatment and continue working in their professions.
